CITIES OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH

NAMDAPHA NATIONAL PARK


Namdapha Tiger Reserve lies in the Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh. The present area of the park is 1985 sq. km. including 1808 sq. km. of core area and 177.4 sq. km. o f buffer area. On its North is the Dapha Bum Ridge(4598 m) the highest point in the reserve while to the south is the Patkai ranges.To its east are unbroken forests of Vijoynagar while the Deban village lies on its western boundary. The Noa Dehing(also known as the Diyun, a tributary of the Brahmaputra) flows from East to West in the reserve. There are some natural lakes and pools flowing on the high hills of Namdapha which attract migratory waterfowl.The reserve is located in the town of Miao at its eastern boundary.

Due to the high annual precipitation, altitudinal range and biogeographic location there is a high species diversity.Namdapha has an assemblage of globally unique mammalian species due to its sub tropical humid climate and virgin untouched forests. It is the only reserve in the world to house four species of the big cat- tiger, leopard, snow leopard, clouded leopard.It is also the last secured home for India's only ape hoolock gibbons.Other mammalian species include the capped langurs, himalayan squirrel, barking deers, sambar, asian elephants, himalayan musk deer, wild water buffaloes etc.

The vegetation is also very luxuriant which can be broadly classified as tropical, temperate and alpine.The available flora of the reserve which is mostly dominated by the hollong followed by hollock, mekai, jhutuli, wild banana, tree ferns, khokan etc.

Rainfall : Varies from 2500mm to 3500mm
Best Season : October to March
Transport and Communication : Nearest accessible town is Tinsukia(110 kms) in Assam which is well connected by rail and road.Nearest rail head is Ledo(56 km) and the nearest airport is Dibrugarh(163 km).
